Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, through the Science & Technology Council,  engaged John to conduct a study focusing on entertainment technology curricula, and how the motion picture industry can do a better job of reaching out to academia to insure a flow of top entry-level technology talent into the industry.

Modeling the process after his successful Outreach program at DreamWorks Animation, John first conducted interviews with top technology executives and CTO’s in the industry for their views on what kinds of skills they were looking for in new graduates that would qualify them as entry-level hires.  In the second half of 2011, John is conducting interviews with academics across a number of fields – not just film production or CG graphics technology – to develop a sense of how industry in general is doing in forging relationships with academia – particularly across interdisciplinary programs – and, by extension, how the motion picture industry can apply these recommendations and lessons.
